ELECTRONIC SEALS (ORGANIZATIONAL SIGNATURE)

The European “Regulation on Electronic Identification and Trust Services for Electronic Transactions in the Internal Market” (eIDAS-VO) will in future allow companies and administrations to centrally stamp digital documents with an electronic seal, the digital company stamp.

While the electronic signature is always issued to a natural person, the electronic seal refers to a legal entity, i.e. an online stamp for authorities, organizations and administration. Electronic seals can be used wherever a personal signature is not necessary, but proof of authenticity is desired, for example in official notices, documents, bank statements and invoices. The newly specified seal can consist of one Seal card or stored in Hardware Security Modules (HSM), which makes the use of electronic seals and their processes much easier.
