As part of the dynamically evolving industrial Communication automation technology is undergoing continuous change. The fieldbus technology was a driving force in this process. It enabled the migration from central to decentralized automation systems and allows the use of distributed intelligence. Ethernet-based communication systems connect the automation technology with the information technology and thus implement consistent communication from the field level to the company management level.
PROFIBUS and PROFINET are standardized solutions that combine full consistency with a high level of application orientation. For this reason, they are among the world's leading open industrial networking systems.
The PROFIBUS User Organization eV (PNO) has set itself the goal of promoting the technical development and international implementation of these open technologies. The PNO tries to achieve this goal in association with 24 other regional representations (RPA), which all members in the international umbrella organization PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) are. This global network brings together a total of 1700 providers, developers, system integrators and users whose common interests are the increasing spread, further development and use of PROFIBUS and PROFINET.
